Hosting Pricing

Hi there! I am looking for some advice or guidance on pricing hosting plans. I have been thinking on reselling hosting for students. Many "standard" plans are overkill for showing off a simple student portfolio, and I want a cheaper, easier way for students to establish their web presence. Does anyone have experience pricing web hosting with a pay-as-you-go or a la carte model (like nearlyfreespeech.net)? Or does the usual model of offering fixed resources for a fixed monthly price (like hostgator.com) work best?
